batz

batz, also known as batzdu, is a digital artist who works with internet memes, in particular the Pepe character. He calls his method Modern Memeism, and in May 2024 described his aim as mutating, propagating and proliferating memes through an artistic memeplex. His work runs the meme through the languages of twentieth century painting: GeoMetric Pepes sets Pepe inside a Neoplasticist grid after Piet Mondrian, while Pepedenza breaks national colours and iconography into fragments recalling Italian Futurism. Frog imagery recurs throughout. In October 2024 he released works from Study of The Self, The Nine, a triple triptych, alongside an untitled frog series.
