Shepard Fairey (born Frank Shepard Fairey in Charleston, South Carolina, in 1970) is an American artist, activist, and founder of the OBEY movement. A graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design, he is best known for his André the Giant and OBEY imagery, as well as his iconic 2008 Barack Obama "HOPE" poster. His work has also appeared on multiple magazine covers, including Time and Rolling Stone. Throughout his career, Fairey has combined art with activism, creating and donating work in support of social, political, and humanitarian causes. His tributes following the 2015 Paris attacks, the founding of the Obey Awareness Program, and decades of support for organizations including Feeding America reflect his longstanding commitment to using art as a vehicle for public engagement and positive change.
