Amon Tobin

Born in Brazil and raised in the UK, Amon Tobin emerged from the breakdancing and hip-hop scenes of the 1980s and the jungle and drum and bass movements of the 1990s before developing a sound entirely his own. After releasing a series of singles on London’s 9Bar Records, his debut album, Adventures in Foam, led to a signing with Ninja Tune in 1996. Over the following decades, acclaimed albums including Bricolage, Permutation, Supermodified, Out from Out Where, Foley Room, and ISAM pushed the possibilities of sampling, field recording, synthesis, and sound design. He has also composed scores for projects ranging from the cult film Taxidermia to the blockbuster video game Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, while releasing dancefloor-oriented music under the alias Two Fingers. His groundbreaking 2011 audiovisual production ISAM used projection mapping to transform the album into a narrative live experience, earning international acclaim and appearing at venues and festivals including the Sydney Opera House, Paris Olympia, Hammersmith Apollo, Sónar, MUTEK, and Moogfest. Admired by artists ranging from Kronos Quartet to Diplo, Tobin remains one of the most inventive and influential electronic musicians of his generation.
