It's a small detail but the contrast between her sparking nails and the cigarette really grabbed me. At least it does now, and I have to assume it did then as well. I spent a lot of 2013 walking around with a flash on my camera basically assaulting strangers on the street with no notice. I guess I still do, though without the flash it feels less aggressive. I really like a lot of the work I produced during this time and going back now and revisiting the people who caught my attention, they are so much more fascinating in retrospect. I don't think I ever noticed her tiara for example, the patterns on her are much more striking than I remember them to be. Plus, she's clearly a little annoyed though not at me because that scowl is directed elsewhere and was in full form before I clicked the shudder. I wonder what is was? I also really enjoy the unplanned time capsule aspect of this - smoking on the street was unremarkable in 2013 and a decade later it's unthinkable.
